Wired Networks
HPNA (Home
Phone Line Allies)
PhoneLine networking,
as it’s name applies, uses your existing phone lines to connect your
computers. It does not interfere with voice operations or DSL on your
existing live telephone line. Your HPNA network, DSL and voice
communications can happen on the SAME phone lines simultaneously. Since
HPNA does not require new cabling in your home, it is one of my favorite
network types to install.
Ethernet
Networks
Ethernet is reliable,
fast, most popular, and oldest type of network around. The only con
to Ethernet networks is cabling. The history of Ethernet is long and
complex so I will not try and explain it here.
There are currently
three types of Ethernet network to consider. Standard Ethernet, or
10Base-T, this is sufficient if you are dealing with small files. However
if you need to move large files like multimedia or DTP documents, you
should rather consider fast Ethernet.
Wireless Network
Once upon a time, wireless LANs were found
solely in vertical enterprises: schools, health care, warehousing and
inventory management. Wireless LANs were slow, expensive and proprietary.
Today's wireless landscape looks significantly different. Today, going
wireless is practical and cost-effective. The speed and performance of the
802.11b products we tested make this technology a reasonable alternative
where wired Ethernet is simply not feasible. And thanks to dramatically
lower prices, SOHO (small office/home office) and mobile apps are also a
possibility.
Today,
business is mobile, and people demand access to wireless Ethernet
anywhere, anytime from any device. That poses something of a challenge —
but not an insurmountable challenge to your experts at SOHO Technologies
Consulting. We help…with a wide range of powerful wireless Ethernet kit
solutions.
